Case Study – Jain Malkin’s Medical Office Design in Greg and Stacey Renker Pavilion

The striking result of this design is in its luxurious first impression. There is not a trace of the sterile, cold, and hard look of what most imagine when they picture the standard medical office, which most patients have come to know and expect. Quite the contrary, the medical office design at the Greg and Stacey Renker Pavilion in the Eisenhower Medical Center, Rancho Mirage CA by Jain Malkin, Inc. is anything but cold and sterile. Rather it is a medical office design modelled after the look of a luxury hotel and is reflective of the accommodating, comfortable and ease of being a guest in a top rated hotel.

What the Client Required: More studies are showing that healing is promoted through specific environments that encourage rest, convenience and privacy. Evidence based design is an emerging science that is becoming increasingly prominent in medical office design.  Studies, surveys, statistics and results can be reviewed and then utilized to improve the quality of healthcare and to accelerate healing with interior design that has been created with the patient in mind.

The Result of Evidence Based Design: The medical office at the Greg and Stacey Renker Pavilion combines healthcare with hospitality. Even walking into reception, patients are treated like guests and experience is the primary focus. The space is warm, inviting and serviced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ensuring patients have their needs met and the suites that they require whenever they are admitted to receive care.

The waiting room is reminiscent of a hotel lounge or meeting room. Tasteful shelves with numerous books and magazines and comfortable, private seating guarantees an enjoyable place to read or catch up on emails while waiting for an appointment. Décor such as hand blown glass art offers aesthetically pleasing qualities that convey a sense of calm and ease.

Patient rooms are private, large and lush with authentic wood flooring throughout, a cherry and black walnut wood headwall with wild grasses imbedded in between the two, behind glass and acrylic. Every room has a 42” inch flat screen television; custom designed bedside cabinets and Italian hotel linens. Suites also have shelving with hand blown glass art, a desk and wifi connectivity.  In the living room area,, 10 friends or family members can be easily accommodated and can be closed or stay open, based on the patient’s preference.

The suite’s washroom is surfaced in Italian marble, top of the line contemporary faucets, showerheads and fixtures and a glass vessel sink on a granite countertop. Showers tote built-in marble clad seats, shelving and a frosted glass door.

Walking the halls, guests can admire original artwork down corridors including photographs, limited edition graphics, paintings, hand blown glass, ceramics and sculptures.  The images reflect evidence based design that reduce and relieve stress.
